Sea Turtles Near Croton Arms The beach beside Croton Arms is designated as a safe haven for sea turtles during their annual nesting period. This means that on certain nights of the year you may actually be lucky enough to sit quietly at the shore and observe the amazing behavior of these animals as they climb up onto the sand and lay their eggs. The nesting season here begins in early April each year with loggerheads first and then greens in May and June. Leatherbacks are less predictable and can nest as early as February or March. Nesting continues through the end of August and early September, with the peak season for loggerheads being the end of June and the beginning of July.
